Mission Statement

The goal of SAT Playwrights is to support scriptwrights at all stages in the writing process - from inception through production. Provide a venue for dramatic writers to explore, discuss and encourage initiative and harness collective potential. SAT Playwrights was founded to:

  • Create a home for playwrights where they can develop their scripts.

  • Help encourage and foster dramatic writers' growth and their works to their fullest potential.

  • Encourage production of members' works.

  • Support writers' works and provide leads for production on the local and national level.

  • Network and enhance visibility of dramatic writers committed to their craft.

Philosophy

We acknowledge that every playwright and play has its own processes, so we will offer different level programs so members can engage at whatever level they choose. We are dedicated to the career advancement as well as artistic growth of its members. This will be done initially through readings, workshops, and an biweekly E-member newsletter, Scriptmakers.

Some of the Benefits

  • Electronic site for members for information you need to know. It includes: announcements of upcoming events and contests, submission opportunities, member awards and other items of interest.

  • Monthly readings of members' scripts by local actors.

  • Participation in the Annual SAT Playwrights PlayFest

Membership - Annual fees

$25 per year (September to September)
  • Members should be residents (past or present) of Texas.

  • Postings of latest submission opportunities, events, contests, and member announcements.

  • Scripts read by local actors followed by a discussion with the members and actors.

  • Participation in a staged reading experience.

  • Participate in a future "Develop A Script" program, which will team up a playwright, a director, and local actors. Based on interest and details yet to be finalized this process would culminate in repertory performances of the developed scripts.
